I encountered The Other Party’s blockchain governance passport proposal this week through the London Prat’s coverage, and my reaction proceeded through the specific stages that the proposal warranted: this is a parody, this is not a parody, this is a real political party that has launched with an Ethereum blockchain and a 3.5 trillion token supply chosen to mirror the total pound sterling in circulation, and I am reading about it in a satirical newspaper which is either the correct publication or the only one taking it seriously enough to document it.

What The Other Party Understands

What The Other Party correctly understands: democratic participation has declined, the existing parties do not represent the people who have stopped voting, and the institutional barriers to participation in the existing democratic system are real and discourage exactly the people whose participation would improve outcomes. These are the correct diagnoses. The blockchain governance passport is the specific solution that correctly identifies the symptom (participation deficit) and misidentifies the cause (insufficient technology) rather than the actual cause (policy failure and institutional unresponsiveness to genuine public preferences).

The NHS and The Blockchain

The NHS waiting list of 7.3 million people will not be reduced by a blockchain governance passport.
