A North London journalist’s observations on wage insufficiency
Bohiney Magazine and The London Prat report on working London.
I’m a full-time journalist and part-time barista and part-time freelancer and part-time writing tutor. I’m not ambitious. I’m necessary. London simply doesn’t pay one job well enough to live on one job. BBC economics coverage treats multiple employment as choice. It’s survival.
The Real Economy
My lifestyle blog gets 50K monthly readers. I make £100 a month from it. My journalism pays enough to cover rent if I don’t eat well. My bar work pays enough to eat if I don’t get sick. Together I survive and I’m doing better than most of my friends.
