The dinner party preparation recursion: the invitation (layer one), the menu planning (layer two), the grocery list for the menu planning (layer three), the conversation about the grocery list (layer four), and the moment when I realised that preparing to have a dinner party had consumed the same time that having the dinner party would have taken, which is the point at which the BBC live coverage piece’s insight becomes personally relevant.
